He was not a good three-point shooting shooter during that 2017-2018 seas...

SI Insider: The NBA Is Considering Whether or Not Families Will Be Allowed to Join Players in the Proposed Campus Situation

SI's Chris Mannix shares another hurdle the NBA has to work through to resume the 2020 season While the NBA has not yet made an official plan for the resumption of the 2020 season Adam Silver is due to meet with the NBA's Board of Governors on Friday in an effort to get a plan in place. SI's Chris Mannix works through a few big questions this campus-like environment presents: Will players be allowed to bring their families? And should they? Chris, the latest news that maybe the players will be able to bring some members of their family   along with them to Orlando? Chris Mannix:  Yeah, this has been a sticking point for the players union that players involve...

SI Insider: There Are Three FBS Schools in the State of Oklahoma and All of Them Are Handling the Beginning of the Season Differently

SI's Pat Forde shares how football coaches are handling their teams returning during the coronavirus pandemic Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy got himself into hot water earlier last month by saying he wanted his team and staff to return to campus long before many people considered it to be safe. While other coaches in the state have taken different stances as to when their teams should return.  Video Transcript: We know that the coronavirus is affecting different areas of the country in different ways, and there are widly different outlooks on when life in America should get back to anything even resembling normal. But the most interesting place might be the state of Oklahoma, where there's widely different viewpoints about football there. Between Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and Tulsa, the three FBS programs that are in that state.  You might remember in early April when Mike Gundy basically looked at his watch and said, Come on, let's go. I want my staff back in th...

Kevin Durant or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Better NBA Scorer?

Is KD a better bucket getter than the NBA's all -time leading scorer? Spencer Dinwiddie said his teammate Kevin Durant is the best scorer of all time. Well, either KD or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. So, is Durant actually a better bucket getter than the NBA's all-time leading scorer? I asked our Ben Pickman and "The Fantasy Exec" Corey Parson for their takes. Pickman for Durant: With all due respect to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who of course, has the most points scored in NBA history, I think I'd go with Kevin Durant as the most skillful scorer in the history of the NBA, or certainly right now. The one thing that Durant has that Kareem doesn't is that three-point jump shot and long jump shots in general. Now Durant's nearly seven feet tall and his ability to stretch the floor and also score down low is a real strength of his. And so I think the height and the ability to stretch out is what separates him from Kareem. Kareem only took 18 three-point ish attempt...

Roundtable: What Is the Best Format for the NBA to Complete the Season?

Plenty of experimental ideas have been tossed around for the NBA to finish the season, but should the league really alter the playoff format? As the NBA season remains suspended due to the coronavirus, it appears Adam Silver and the league is nearing a decision to return and complete the season . In a report, NBA spokesperson Mike Bass said the league has begun "exploratory conversations" with the Walt Disney Corporation about having games take place at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The NBA is reportedly targeting a late-July start. While the location is not locked in, there has been much speculation about the possible format ranging from a “World Cup style” group stage or a play-in tournament. The Crossover asked its writers to explore what is the best possible format to finish the season. Mark Bechtel I’d like to steer clear of anything too gimmicky, because if you’re going to crown a champion you don’t want the trophy you present to...

The Demise of College Football in California May Have Been Greatly Exaggerated

Image
Once seemingly on the outside looking in for the 2020 season, the leaders of California programs have a message. David Shaw would like a word. In fact, the Stanford football coach would like several words, with multiple media personalities, from a few different television networks. He’d like to tell them that they failed their audience, that they delivered the wrong message, that they misled everyone. He’d like to razz those who wrote sensational headlines, the ones projecting California football’s demise, predicting those in the Golden State would be left behind while the rest of the country played a fall season. “There’s a lot of gamesmanship that happens in the college football world that is very pointed at us out here on the West Coast, that we don’t love football, that we don’t play real football, how if we don’t do what the SEC is doing in the way the SEC is doing it, then we’re wrong,” Shaw says in an interview with Sports Illustrated on Wednesday. “The fact that we didn’t ...
